What
is A Stage for All Reasons?
A Stage for All Reasons is an essential
$1.5 million capital campaign launched after careful planning and
consideration by the leadership of Solvang Theaterfest to restore
and expand the Solvang Festival Theater.
Why is a capital
campaign needed?
Thirty years and thousands of performances have taken their toll,
and the Solvang Festival Theater is in dire need of repairs and
improvements. Once minor issues have now become major problems.
What
will the campaign fund?
The campaign will fund the theater's priority renovations, including:
• Urgently needed safety and infrastructure replacement and improvements,
such as fire sprinklers, electric rewiring and emergency
lighting
• Replacing the inadequate, spartan restrooms
• Renovating the garden and lobby areas to improve access and protect
the
mature trees
• Improving the dressing rooms, stagehouse, the load-in area and
work lights
• Adding a pavilion for intimate performances, concerts, youth theater
and
community events
Doesn’t
my ticket purchase provide funds for needed improvements?
As a member of the audience, you are a crucial part of every
performance! Solvang Theaterfest and PCPA, the Pacific
Conservatory of the Performing Arts, work together to bring the
magic of live theater to the Santa Ynez Valley. However, income
from ticket sales goes directly to PCPA to help cover their production
costs and does not fund Solvang Theaterfest. It is the responsibility
of Solvang Theaterfest to maintain and develop the Solvang Festival
Theater.
What's
the difference between Solvang Theaterfest and PCPA?
Solvang Theaterfest and PCPA are two separate organizations. Solvang
Theaterfest is a non-profit community-based organization which owns
and operates the Solvang Festival Theater. PCPA is the theatrical
company and highly regarded conservatory training program at Allan
Hancock College in Santa Maria. Each summer, PCPA brings a season
of professional productions to the Solvang Festival Theater.
I
already give to Solvang Theaterfest’s annual fund. Why should I
give an additional gift?
We greatly appreciate your annual support and depend on
it for our operating budget. The capital campaign is an independent
bricks-and-mortar fund and an opportunity for you to help build
a better theater for the future.
If
I don’t attend the theater, why should I give?
The Solvang Festival Theater is a community asset, just like a school,
hospital or museum. It provides a venue for high-caliber theatrical
productions in a unique setting. Solvang Theaterfest brings over
$3 million annually into the local economy. If you live, work or
own a business in the Santa Ynez Valley, it is in your best interest
to contribute to a community facility that supports the cultural
arts, providing wholesome entertainment for our residents and our
valued visitors.
When
will the renovation be complete?
After two years of careful planning, we will break ground on the
new restrooms in the autumn of 2005. The majority of the construction
will take place in 2006.
